Symmetry

WALT: make  and talk about different shapes using symmetry

Success criteria:
  • identify lines of symmetry in objects
  • make patterns which have line symmetry
  • describe line symmetry in their own words
  • fold paper systematically
  • cut shapes from folded paper
  • find number patterns derived from folding and cutting using a table

WALT: make and talk about 2D shapes by using symmetry

Success Criteria:
  • identify 2D shapes by name
  • name 2-dimensional shapes: triangle, square, oblong (non-square rectangle), circle, oval, pentagon, hexagon and diamond
  • describe shape attributes in their own language
  • explore and describe faces, edges, and corners of 2D and 3D objects
  • make, name and describe polygons and other plane shapes
  • describe the process of making shapes with line symmetry.
  • name common two-dimensional mathematical shapes
